As with many remote towns, the population has shrunk dramatically in recent years, going from over 1,000 inhabitants to less than 400 in a short period of time. This brings great uncertainty for the remaining citizens of Ittoqqortoormiit, and unfortunately it is a little quiet.
A supply ship visits twice a year; in July and September. The rest of the year supplies are delivered by air, which considerably increases the costs of ordinary goods.
Despite the dreary numbers and difficulties, you are not far from raw, unspoiled and infinitely beautiful scenery.
Ittoqqortoormiit is the Greenlandic city with the most polar bear sightings, which can sometimes be a nuisance.
